When it is not treated, it can cause serious problems such as stroke, heart attacks or kidney failure

The only way you can find out if you have high blood pressure is to have your blood pressure checked.

The blood pressure is considered to be high if you have a BP of 140/90- this is a general rule

If you have persistent high blood pressure, you can suffer the following serious disease which are potentially life threatening. In other words, they can kill you.

Heart attacks

Strokes

Kidney disease

Vascular dementia

If you have high Blood pressure, reducing it even by a small amount can help lower or stop these diseases. The Black or Caribbean people have more problem with BP than other races.

If your blood pressure is high you take medicine or change your lifestyle.

Lifestyle changes to help prevent and lower your blood pressure

  • Reduce salt intake
  • Eat enough fruits and vegetables
  • Cut back on alcohol
  • Lose weight
  • exercise regularly
  • Stop smoking

Please all adults over 40 years should check their blood pressure at least every five years.

It is really sad that such a simple test could prevent a bad disease and people ignore it.

You can check your blood pressure at the clinics. Even the nurses can check it for you.

You can check it home yourself if you have the machine.

Some enterprising people can set up places for people to have BP checked like in chemists, shops, some workplaces and even churches.

We can stop many strokes, heart diseases and kidney failure by such a simple test.
