Exercise and its benefits

Many people spend many hours in the day sitting – watching TV,  sitting at work, sitting  in the market, sitting in a meeting, reading, travelling by car, bus, or train. When you sit too much it can be a risk to your health because it simply slow down the ability of your body to perform it functions like regulate blood sugar, blood pressure, or burn body fat.

Adults should engage in physical activities each day. Any activity at all is better than no physical activity.

Try to reduce time spent sitting or lying down.

Exercise can help you stay healthy, maintain your independence, and look after yourself as your get older. Any simple exercise like walking fast, riding a bicycle, gardening, dancing, to any recreational sports would do.

It is an open secret. People who engaged in sports and continued into their middle age, tend to remain healthy and suffer fewer health problems, and lead a healthier life in later years The more exercise you do the better.

Benefits

Exercise reduce the risk of major and long term illness like heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, stroke, hypertension, and even cancer. Physical activity helps the body regulate sugar level , decrease blood pressure and fat ( cholesterol) level  and therefore decrease your chance of getting any these chronic disease.

When you exercise, you burn fat (the fuel) and that would help you lose weight. If you do not exercise, you increase the risk of weight gain, and obesity, the body slows down, resulting in fat deposited in the body and arteries leading to more risk of heart conditions, stroke, and diabetes.

 Exercise also helps with your mental health, reduces stress and anxiety, boost your mood, energy level, self-esteem, and better sleep. This is even true with long term illness that make them tired like cancer or HIV.

 It reduces the risk of depression by increasing brain responds to substances that help remove the feeling of low. Some of these substances have been produced in tablet forms which you would not need if you exercise. There are substances called endorphins which reduces the awareness of pain, makes you feel good and positive. Exercise makes the body produce more of these substances. 

 Exercise stimulates, refreshes, and therefore improves memory, thinking and general brain function. Physical activity increases heart rate, blood flow and oxygen to the brain.  It increases substances vital to brain cell survival, and therefore reduce those changes in the brain that result in dementia.

It strengthens the muscles and bones in the body, makes your more physically energetic. Physical activity help release substances that help build your muscles. It help make bones denser, stronger and prevent bone thinning (osteoporosis) which also means less fracture and less bone pains.

If you don’t use it you lose it. Lack of exercise leads to weaker and flabby muscle which makes you frails and leads to frequent falls especially as your get older. Frequent falls leads to fracture of the bones

Exercises help reduce pains associated with long term conditions and improve quality of life especially as you get older. As mentioned earlier exercise stimulate substance like endorphins that reduces awareness of pain and make us cope with pains better. 

Physical activities reduce the risk of osteoarthritis – effects of wear and tear in the joints as your get older. This would result in less joint ( hip, knee, back and neck) aches and  pains and swelling when you are older.

Increasing your activity to just daily walks or run can help improve bowel activity, poo more regularly, avoid constipation, stomach ache and bloated feeling. You would avoid the need for talking laxatives

Exercise helps enhance sex life, by boosting sex drive, increase in energy level, and muscle strength. It does not only improve performance; you would gain more pleasure from sexual activity and increase in frequency. Particularly in men it reduces the chances of erection problems by increase in heart rate during exercise, increase blood flow to the penis, which is needed for an erection, resulting in better sex life.

It therefore reduces the risk of you needing tablets to help with these conditions, tablets which may also have their own side effects.

Exercise is a free long term tablet that you can administer to yourself to live a healthier life well into your old age.
